The Federal customs service (FCS) of the Russian Federation has returned 9.1 thousand tons of sanctions products to the neighboring states, with the largest amount of return - 4.7 thousand tons - accounted for Kazakhstan. These data was provided to journalists by the head of the main Department of customs control Valery Seleznev after release of goods by FCS of Russia.
"Since creation of mobile groups in November 2015 to October 2016 85.4 thousand vehicles were stopped and 3.1 million tons of goods were checked. 917 vehicles transporting 12.4 thousand tons of goods under sanctions were identified. More than 3 thousand tons were destroyed ", - said Seleznev.

According to him, 66 cases of administrative violations and two criminal cases were filed concerning carriers. 9.1 thousand tons of banned products were returned to the neighboring states: to Kazakhstan – 4.7 thousand tons, to Ukraine – 3,6 thousand tons, to Belarus – 0,9 thousand tons.

He also added that when the possibility of destruction of sanctions goods was introduced, the flow decreased. "This is an effective mechanism. At first it was difficult – if we return the goods to Kazakhstan or Belarus, it can arrive back through bypass customs. We must understand that we have only an administrative border with Belarus and Kazakhstan," - said Seleznev.

On August 7, 2014 Russia imposed restrictions on import of food products from countries that have imposed sanctions against Russia: the USA, the EU, Canada, Australia and Norway. Meat, sausage, fish and seafood, vegetables, fruits, dairy products are under the ban. Later the sanctions had been cancelled for dietary supplements, sports, baby and medical nutrition (including lactose-free products).

The destruction of food sanctions products began in Russia on 6 August 2015. The Federal customs service, Rosselkhoznadzor and Rospotrenadzor were instructed to implement this.
