The Director of the Russian Dairy Research Center Mikhail Mishchenko told about the prospects of export development of the dairy products in the post-Soviet countries at the international conference "Exporters of the future in the global dairy market" in Hanover.
Mikhail Mishchenko told about global trends, changing world market of milk and dairy products.

"According to the traditional point of view the key exporters of dairy products include the USA, the EU, Australia, New Zealand, Argentina and the Republic of Belarus. But I think that now we can already observe how the world is changing. This year London hosted the event, organized by DairyNewsletter, and participants talked about the fact that there is overproduction of milk in Europe. The EU countries are trying to reduce the production of milk. We need to ask ourselves, how much milk the world needs at the moment and in the future?" - said Mikhail Mishchenko.

At the same time the post-Soviet states have the opportunity for increasing milk production and implementing their export potential.

"You should pay attention to the post-Soviet states from the point of view of the development of the dairy market. At the moment, in many post-Soviet countries there is a shortage of milk, but the level of self-sufficiency in milk is high enough" - said the expert.

For example, in Armenia the level of self-sufficiency in raw milk is 90.1%. Some post-Soviet states have demonstrated high rates of milk production growth. For example, the production of milk in Uzbekistan increased more than 2 times during the last 14 years. In 2015, Uzbekistan produced 8200 thousand tons of milk.

"If these countries increase milk production by increasing milk yield up to 5000 kg per cow, they will have the opportunity to start the export of dairy products," said Mikhail Mishchenko.

In Azerbaijan the self-sufficiency in milk is about 89.7%. With the increase of milk yield up to 5 tons per cow the self-sufficiency in milk in Azerbaijan will rise to 314%, which will provide opportunities to use excess milk produced for the manufacture of products for export.

Uzbekistan, increasing productivity from the current rate of 1.9 tons per cow per year up to 5 tons, will reach self-sufficiency of 277,9%.

In the context of the embargo imposed by Russia against Europe and the United States, there open opportunities for the development of trade with dairy products in the post-Soviet countries.

"It's a time of change, when opportunities for other countries close to Russia culturally and historically, as these States were part of the Of The Soviet Union. They are already trying to replace dairy products from Europe (on the Russian market-ed.). And of course in Russia we see some increase in the production of dairy products, that will allow to increase exports of dairy products in the above described country," said Michael Mishchenko.
